Many of Georgia’s residents can trace their ancestors back to Irish members who came to America centuries ago escaping religious and political persecution and famine. For the rest of us, we’re all a little bit Irish on March 17th, which falls on a Sunday this year. That means there are plenty of events around the state to fill the weekend.

Dublin, Georgia hosts a popular month-long celebration honoring the country of their sister city. This weekend’s activities include arts and crafts, food and music, and a variety of competitions from birdhouses to tennis. There’s also a big parade at 9am on Saturday, March 16th.

Using the search tool on Explore Georgia, I entered “St. Patrick’s Day” into the “type” field and came up with these five events.

Conyers will celebrate with what they’ve called the “World’s Fasted Growing St. Patrick’s Day Parade” at 4:30pm on Friday, March 15.

Adairsville’s Barnsley Gardens has a “Euro Style” St. Patrick’s Day schedule of events running all weekend that includes beer, wine, dancing and live music.

Fort Mountain State Park in Chatsworth has a 2-mile Pot of Gold Hike with the park’s naturalist as guide. This one might be just the thing if you want something a little less loud and crowded. There is a $5 parking fee.

Rock City in Lookout Mountain, Georgia is hosting is 6th annual Shamrock City celebration. They’ll have Irish music, dance lessons, food, and more. Regular admission costs apply.

Savannah’s River Street celebrations are legendary, attracting literally hundreds of thousands of visitors.
