Cam Robinson ran for 252 yards and three touchdowns and Mill Creek set a championship-game record for points scored in a 70-35 win over Carrollton in the Class 7A title game at Georgia State’s Center Parc Stadium on Saturday.

It was the first state championship for Mill Creek (14-1), which lost only to Buford during the regular season. The Hawks set a school record with 70 points – surpassing the old mark of 62 held by 1971 Valdosta and 2020 Warner Robins -- and the 105 points were the most scored in a Georgia high school championship game.

Mill Creek set the pace early by scoring on Robinson’s 66-yard run and on an 88-yard return of a blocked field goal by Jamal Anderson. Five of the Hawks’ touchdowns were 48-plus yards.

The Hawks ran for 406 yards, threw for 191 yards and had 660 yards in kickoff returns. 

Caleb Downs, named GPB’s Mr. Georgia Football, ran for 45 yards and three touchdowns, caught one pass for 16 yards, and led the team with six tackles. Makhail Wood caught four passes for 29 yards and returned a kickoff for a touchdown. 

Carrollton (14-1) was led by freshman quarterback Julian “JuJu” Lewis, who completed 25 of 46 passes for 531 yards and five touchdowns. He became the first player to throw for 500 yards in a state championship game.

Caleb Odom caught seven passes for 167 yards and one touchdown and Bryce Hicks caught six passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns. Hicks also rushed for 43 yards

Carrollton’s defense was led by Brodie Bradburn with 10 tackles and Montreze Smith with eight tackles.
