Political Rewind: Georgia Democrats reflect on 2022 midterms; Jan. 6th Committee's final meeting
Primary Content
The panel:
Jen Jordan, @senatorjen, former state senator
Michael Thurmond, DeKalb County CEO
Sam Park, @SamforGeorgia, State House Minority Whip
Patricia Murphy, @MurphyAJC, Senior reporter and columnist, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The breakdown:
1. Democrats reflect on lessons learned from the 2022 elections.
- Minority Whip Sam Park noted that Georgia Democrats have to work to make their case to every voter.
- Policy-forward campaigns are important to reach out to voters.
2. Messaging and money matter on the campaign trail.
- Former state Sen. Jen Jordan learned that messaging is important on the campaign trail. She said that candidates need to tailor their messaging to different people in the states.
3. Looking forward to 2024, leaders expect major changes.
- According to Patricia Murphy, Democrats need to search for what is next. Although Georgia Democrats received donations from across the U.S., they may need to win more races for the donations to continue.
- DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond said that Democrats need to be more efficient in state races. It is easy to nationalize a senate race, but not a state race.
- Jordan supports Georgia moving up the Presidential primary in 2024, and expects Republicans to support it as well.
