2023 Basketball Spotlight: Newton 5-Star Stephon Castle
Primary Content
Newton High School guard Stephon Castle can add another entry to his lengthy resume after making the final roster for the 2023 McDonald’s All-American Game. He also boasts a gold medal from his time with Team USA Basketball’s U18 team and was named the 2022 Region 4 7A Player of the Year.
Castle is the No. 1 shooting guard in the country and No. 2 overall player in the state, according to the On3 Recruiting Consensus.
The 6-foot-6, 205-pound senior has led the Rams to fourth place in the largest classification with a 17-9 overall record and just two losses in region play, while averaging over 22 points per game and more than 6 assists and 7 rebounds.
Castle will surely be missed in Newton County when he heads to the University of Connecticut to play for the Huskies next season. The city of Covington declared Aug. 15, 2022 “Stephon Castle Day.”
