8:45 p.m. UPDATE:

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens led a press conference with multiple agencies to announce that shooting suspect Deion Patterson has been arrested. The conference was broadcast live on Facebook.

Patterson was apprehended after a seven-hour manhunt which began in Midtown Atlanta at the site of a noon medical office shooting that killed one woman and injured four others, who are being treated at Grady hospital. The search ended at Lismore East apartment complex pool in Southeastern Cobb County, near the Cumberland district and Truist Park. Police used surveillance camera footage as well as social media tips and a resident's 911 call to track Patterson to the area.

The coordinated effort involved the Atlanta Police Department, Cobb County Police, the City of Atlanta, mayor's office and many other federal, state and local agencies.

5:32 p.m. UPDATE:

Cobb County Police have posted updates about a search for the suspect near the Battery and Truist Park.

A recent Tweet mentioned that a public information officer is on the way to the search area for media statements.

3:55 p.m. UPDATE:

Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum told reporters that a 39-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The four injured victims were also women, aged 25, 29, 56 and 71.

The four injured women “are fighting for their lives at Grady Hospital,” Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said during a news conference.

More than two hours after the shooting, police said they had no information indicating that Patterson was still in the area. They lifted a shelter-in-place advisory, but asked people to stay away from the area due to the active investigation.

Heightened police presence has been reported in Cobb County and in the Smyrna area near The Battery.

Authorities also put out a photo of Patterson showing his face and asked anyone with information about his whereabouts to call 911 and not approach him. Crime Stoppers was offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the suspect.

Atlanta police said there had been no additional shots fired since the initial shooting unfolded inside a building on West Peachtree Street, between 12th and 13th Streets, a commercial area with many office towers and high-rise apartments. No suspect was in custody and police said in an email just after 1 p.m. that it was an “active, fluid situation.”

Police said in an email that they were actively searching for the suspect and any additional victims. The four injured people were taken to a hospital for treatment and the fourth person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting comes as cities around the U.S. have been wracked by gun violence and mass shootings in 2023.

Police sent out a photo of the person believed to be the shooter. The person was wearing dark pants and a light colored hoodie with the hood pulled up. They had a mask on their face and appeared to be wearing a bag across their front.

Authorities said the person is believed to be armed and dangerous and asked anyone with information on the person's whereabouts to call 911. Police urged anyone in the area to secure their building and shelter in place.

Dozens of police and fire vehicles were gathered along West Peachtree Street, as officers with assault-style rifles, helmets and vests continued to arrive more than an hour after the shooting.

Many officers clustered outside the front entrance of a Northside Medical building. Multiple helicopters hovered overhead while police tried to keep traffic moving on nearby streets. Construction workers watched from the nearest corner in the Midtown neighborhood where many new high-rises are being built.
