At some companies, employees are moving desks every few months, and they’re always sitting around different people.
Usually those people work in other departments.
“[The idea is] everybody gets a deeper network. They learn more about the people in the office, and they learn more about what other people do,” said Brandon Smith, a workplace culture expert who independently consults with businesses and leaders. “Maybe they break down things like silos—we often hear, ‘Gosh, we want to break down silos’—and ultimately become more creative, more innovative, because you’re thinking differently.” (:05)
