Celebrate Kwanzaa tonight on GPB Radio with “A Season’s Griot” at 8 PM!

Greetings of the season! There's much to be grateful for at this time of year!

Habari Gani? (Which means “What’s the news?”) Kugichagulia! Today is the second day of Kwanzaa, Kugichagulia, which represents, “Self-Determination”.

Kwanzaa is a week-long celebration held in the United States and also celebrated in the Western African Diaspora in other nations of the Americas. The celebration honors African heritage in African-American culture, and is observed from December 26 to January 1, culminating in a feast and gift-giving. Kwanzaa has seven core principles (Nguzo Saba).

GPB Radio continues to provide a rich mixture of cultural celebrations and tonight, you’ll have the opportunity to experience a Kwanzaa celebration in story and song by tuning in for “A Season’s Griot”.

A Season's Griot is public radio's only nationally syndicated Kwanzaa program. Hosted for nearly 20 years by acclaimed storyteller Madafo Lloyd Wilson, this annual one-hour special captures the tales and traditions of African American and African peoples.
This year’s program will celebrate Family with special guests Elisha Minter, AKA Mother Minter, the show’s poet laureate, Beverly Burnette, and other members of the Season’s Griot family.

Tune in tonight, followed by The Jazz Spot at 9! Tonight we’ll continue the celebration of Kwanzaa, remember the great Yusef Lateef and prepare for the impending New Year!
