The Stephens County defense came to play on Friday and the result was quite memorable.

The Indians (2-0) defeated mountain rival Rabun County 35-0 and became the first team to shutout the high-flying Wildcats since 2013. Rabun was last blanked in the first round of the 2013 Class A playoffs 34-0 by Greater Atlanta Christian.

Stephens County also broke a five-game losing streak against Rabun. The Indians last victory against Rabun County came in 1959. The two schools did not play from 1960-2015.

Senior Dawson Childs led the Stephens County deefense with eight tackles, one for loss, and one sack. Stephens County had five sacks, with Kymani Colbert (two), Garret Addison and Aidan Butts adding to the total. Jasec Smith had two interceptions and another defended pass. 

On offense, Tripp Underwood threw a pair of touchdown passes, one each to Davon Swinton and Devin Cobb, for Stephens County. Omari Feaster broke an 82-yard touchdown run and Javin Gordon ran for the final score.

Marietta

No. 600 for Marietta

Marietta beat West Forsyth 20-19 in overtime to become the first Cobb County program to reach 600 wins. The Blue Devils are the 23rd school to reach the milestone, according to the Georgia High School Football Historians Association.

Two other schools could reach 600 wins this season – Glynn Academy (598) and Glynn Academy (592). Valdosta has the most wins in Georgia with 945.

Second straight national win for Wolves

Class 7A No. 1 Buford defeated its second straight nationally ranked opponent on Friday, beating Mallard Creek of Charlotte, N.C., 10-7. The Wolves opened the season with an 18-0 win over St. Frances Academy.

Trailing 7-0, the Wolves tied the score in the third quarter on a 41-yard pass from Dylan Raiola to K.J. Bolden. Mario Ventura booted the winning 40-yard field goal with 11:12 remaining. Raiola threw for 174 of Buford’s 267 yards of total offense.
