A Chip off the Old Rock

On seven Saturdays each fall, a tranquil South Carolina town, becomes a college football metropolis. Its heart is Howard’s Rock. Players rub it for luck before entering Clemson Memorial Stadium. The tradition is nearly wrecked when a rogue fan chips a chunk off the sacred stone. Clemson deems it a felony against the felony. Reverence for a rock turns a college town into a hard place.
