Army Air Corps
Frank F. Alston, Jr., was born in May of 1924 in rural Georgia. He had a typical southern upbringing and enlisted in the Army Air Corps after graduation where he served as a technical sergeant. Mr. Alston remembers flying the oldest bomber in his squadron, trying to bomb a bridge without bombing a nearby cathedral, feeling the presence of a higher power during a frightening and violent mission, and how a pair of socks kept him from getting a Purple Heart.
