Ralph Sacks

Canadian Army

Ralph L. Sacks was born in Toronto in November of 1917. He was working a low-paying job in a lingerie factory but when he heard of the atrocities the Germans were committing against his fellow Jews, he felt the need to enlist. He served as a private in the Canadian Army, traveling all over Europe. Mr. Sacks recalls almost getting shelled on a near-daily basis, salvaging bits and pieces of Army vehicles, and trading Canadian "Bully Beef" for American SPAM.
