Mrs. Rose Cunningham was born in Romania, on December 12, 1927. Though she was raised Catholic, she discovered that her family was of Jewish heritage when her family moved to Paris to escape the Nazis. Her family was in Paris when the Nazis invaded on September 3, 1939 and she describes their subsequent flight to safety in the southern French countryside. Mrs. Cunningham and her family were able to board the Alhambra for Casa Blanca and finally the Portuguese freighter, the Santa Maria, for Cuba. It was while in Cuba that Mrs. Cunningham met her husband, Air Force Gunner, John Cunningham. Mrs. Cunningham goes on to explain how her proficiency in languages gave her many opportunities and how she became a foreign consul. Mrs. Cunningham is the author of “Joie de Vivre”.
