You’re officially invited to visit one of the 60 State Parks and Historic Sites across Georgia for free on Saturday, September 27, 2014. As part of a statewide celebration of National Public Lands Day, Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites is waiving the entry fees for all of its locations tomorrow. Those locations include more than just the parks. Historic sites like Roosevelt’s Little White House, the Dahlonega Gold Museum, Savannah-area forts and plantations, and many more historic sites (operated by the state Department of Natural Resources) are also included in the free admission day. In addition to free entry, the parks are also providing a range of activities, including trail and waterway clean up, guided hikes, and night-time astronomy programs at various sites around the state. In short, there will be something fun and free for your family to do this weekend. No matter where you are in the state, you’re near enough to some type of historical and/ or recreational site to allow for a fun day trip. Getting outside and enjoying Georgia’s beautiful parks is one of the best ways I can think of to spend the first weekend in Autumn.
