80 and Counting...

The GHSA state football championship is in full swing. 405 schools began the year with the dream of making it to the
postseason. 160 teams qualified for the playoffs and right now as we head into the second round, 80 teams are still standing with a shot at the five state championship titles.

On the web this week, we have a great game for you as 10-1 McEachern takes on 8-3 Lassiter. This will matchup two of the states top quarterbacks. Lassiter's Eddie Printz has thrown for over 25 hundred yards and 24 touchdowns while McEachern's Trent Thompson has thrown for over 22 hundred yards and 25 touchdowns. This one should be a dandy.

McEachern's only loss was a hard fought 12-10 loss to Hillgrove that was televised on GPB. Lassiter is 8-3, and coming off a spectacular 17-16 win over Alpharetta when Niles Clark who is heading to N.C. State blocked the extra point in overtime to secure a Trojan win.

Kickoff is at 7:30 on gpb.org/sports.

On TV, its Colquitt County taking on North Gwinnett. Both teams can light up the scoreboard, but do not take
anything away from both defenses. The Packers have held their opponents to 14 points or fewer in 8 games so far. The Bulldogs are a hard hitting crew as well.

This is such a great time of the season. 160 teams cut down to 80. Just a sweet 16 teams remain in each class at this nano-second.

After this weekend just a great 8 teams will remain in each classifications as we head into the quarterfinal round. And every team has the same goal. Make it to the Georgia Dome and win a state title.

I can't wait for Football Fridays in Georgia!
