Mercer University has received a $1 million federal grant to provide extra services for some students.

The money will help create more support for students with disabilities, students from low-income households and students who are the first in their family to go to college.

It will fund scholarships for those students and pay for tutors, intensive summer classes and extra workshops throughout the school year.

The students will get one-on-one counseling and travel to career fairs.

The private college received the money from the U.S. Department of Education. The university has more than 8,000 students at
