A group of Air Tran employees have voted to unionize.

Monday, 34 percent of eligible customer service, ramp and reservations agents agreed to be represented by the International Association of Machinists. 30 percent voted not to join IAM.

The union will represent 2,900 Air Tran employees.

The change could not likely have happened without a rule change in 2010. Non-votes no longer count as “no” votes.
Yesterday, 36 percent of employees did not cast a ballot but they were not counted as “no’s.”
