A Kennesaw Sate University professor has won a $2.4 million grant from the Department of Defense.

Dr. Svetlana Dambinova is developing a blood test to diagnose concussions and mild traumatic brain injury.

The test detects a peptide in the blood that’s released after a head injury.

Thousands of American military personnel suffer heads injuries each year.

But it’s also a problem among the general population.

There are 1.7 million such injuries a year.

52,000 people die from TBI, while 5.3 million people live with a related disability.
