Georgia State Fair Cancelled

Authorities say a group that operates the Georgia State Fair, which has been held in Macon since 1851, has voted not to hold the event next year.
The decision was made by the Exchange Club of Macon, which has operated the fair since 1942.
Exchange Club officials said they voted by secret ballot Thursday. Don Johstono, president of the fair's board of directors, would not disclose the vote tally but said it was a close decision.
Johstono said one concern brought up before the vote was the fair's finances. He said the event has not generated income above its expenses in recent years.
He said decisions such as whether the fair would continue after 2012 would be made later.
