The family of Troy Davis has scheduled his funeral for Saturday in his hometown of Savannah.

Davis' younger sister, Kimberly Davis, said Tuesday the public is invited to attend the 11 a.m. funeral service at Jonesville Baptist Church.

Davis was executed in Georgia's death chamber last week for the 1989 slaying of off-duty Savannah police officer Mark MacPhail. Davis insisted he was innocent, but courts ultimately upheld his conviction.

Thousands of supporters worldwide protested Davis' execution, saying the case raised too many doubts about his guilt.
