Georgia Republican Senator Johnny Isakson is co-sponsoring a bill aimed at mortgage underwriting.

The measure would give federal loan agencies access to information that predicts a homeowner’s energy bills.

Frank Lee with First Bank Mortgage in Augusta says this could be a boost to the mortgage underwriting industry.

“If a bill like this were passed that you could show the utility bills would be $150 a month, and that savings could be passed-on to helping a person qualify for a house, I could see where it would be beneficial.”

Senator Isakson says the measure would also promote jobs in the energy-efficient home building industry.
