A group of airmen from Robins Air Force Base could make history in Iraq if they leave on the final plane out of the country.

The Telegraph of Macon reports that about 30 members of the 5th Combat Communications Group have been at Sather Air Base and will likely be among the last to leave even if they aren't on the last plane out.

U.S. troops are supposed to be out of Iraq by Dec. 31.

The 5th Combat Communications Group is maintaining and defending the fiber-optic network that links the communications equipment at Sather.

Maj. Tracy Parrish, the unit's commander, says there's a sense of pride about being among the last to leave and that "everybody wants to be on the last plane out."
