A training center for first responders to disasters is planned for Perry.

The Macon Telegraph newspaper reports officials say the facility will provide training for natural disasters and terrorist attacks and could be operating within nine months.

Guardian Centers of Georgia spokesman Jeff Battcher said funding will come from private investors.

Morgan Law, executive director of the Houston County Development Authority, said local officials are excited about the immediate and long-term potential of the project. Law said the center will boost the economy by adding 100 or more jobs to the community.
