Georgia State University police say they've installed an additional 50 security cameras on campus in hopes they will reduce crime on the downtown Atlanta campus.

The cameras are mounted along the Piedmont Road corridor.

Georgia State students have expressed concerns about their safety after several robberies during the past year. Thieves have been snatching smartphones and other electronics from the hands of students.

In one case, a student told GSU police that someone came from behind him and snatched his Apple I Pad from his hand outside the Aderhold Learning Center.

In another robbery, a student reported that she was walking near Piedmont Avenue and Auditorium Place when two people came up behind her and snatched her cell phone.
