A bill allowing third parties to lease solar panels has been tabled in the Senate Regulated Industries Committee. The measure garnered support from both the solar industry and personal finance guru Clark Howard, who testified the bill could bring thousands of jobs to Georgia.

Representatives from Georgia Power testified against the measure. They say it would increase costs for customers not using the panels.

Senator Buddy Carter sponsored the bill and argues the measure simply protects personal property rights.

“I don't think this is opening up the flood gates. I don't view this as another class of supplier. I don't think that's true at all.

45 other states have already passed similar legislation.
