Gwinnett County commissioners have rejected a proposal to bring commercial flights to Briscoe Field.

Controversy over whether to limit the field to general aviation flights has divided the county for three years. Commissioners also voted Tuesday to withdraw its application to a Federal Aviation Administration pilot program on privatization.

Members of the group Citizens for a Better Gwinnett cheered the decision. The group turned out to the courthouse for months and wore red shirts protesting the plan, raising concerns about noise, pollution and quality of life issues.
