Savannah tourism officials say that recent numbers show the average Savannah tourist is younger, and that spending is on the rise.

The Savannah Morning News reports the average visitor for day trips and overnight visits is in his or her early to mid-40's, which is younger than in 2010.

2011 tourism data also shows the average daily spending per party of overnight visitors is $507.

Chairman of the board of Visit Savannah, Charlie Brazil, says marketing efforts have been aiming at younger, more affluent visitors.

Officials say Visit Savannah grew its digital marketing efforts in 2011, utilizing social media like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Pinterest more aggressively and lauching a mobile internet site.
