Georgians are hoping Jekyll Island is announced in August as a winner for Coca-Cola's third annual "America Is Your Park" campaign.

The event ends July 15th and the top three winners receive grants from the company to restore or enhance the parks.

According to savejekyllisland.org, after Coca-Cola enforced its voting regulations, the park leaped into first place with nearly a million vote lead.

The Event Marketing Coordinator of Jekyll Island Authority, Nancy Rowan, says that Jekyll Island continues to lead the contest.

"We have the largest online voter percentage of anybody in the competition," Rowan says. "Those are people sitting around the country voting one vote at a time".

She mentioned recreation and historic preservation as targets if Jekyll Island is awarded the grants.

"We are considering putting up a new birding platform and revitalizing a historic building here on the island," Rowan says.

She notes that the top three parks in the campaign are all from south eastern United States.
