Atlanta will be the first American City to host the Global Peace Conference.

The series of forums and youth events centered on international development and peacemaking strategies takes place at the Marriott Marquis downtown.

The event runs from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, and is expected to draw international leaders, including 11 former Latin American presidents.

Participants will collaborate on strategies in education, health care, environmental sustainability, community development and conflict resolution. Previous conferences have been held in the Philippines, Kenya and South Korea.

Democratic state Sen. Emanuel Jones and Dr. Robert Schuller Jr. will co-chair the event.
