Prosecutors are asking a judge to impose a gag order in the case of a Brunswick teenager charged with fatally shooting a baby in the face.

District Attorney Jackie Johnson filed the request Wednesday, saying attorneys on both sides should be prohibited from talking to the news media to ensure a fair trial for 17-year-old De'Marquise Elkins.

Elkins is charged with malice murder in the March 21 slaying of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago. Police say the child was shot in his stroller as Elkins and another teenager tried to rob the baby's mother.

The prosecutor's gag order request doesn't mention a second suspect, 15-year-old Dominique Lang, who is charged with felony murder. Lang's attorney is asking for him to be tried separately from Elkins.
