The new police chief in Brookhaven is looking to hire more than 50 sworn police officers.

Brookhaven police Chief Gary Yandura, who started last week, says he's looking for officers who match the makeup of the city, including bilingual officers.

Yandura has already hired a deputy chief who's helping him with recruiting, interviews and background checks. Now they're looking for patrol officers, sergeants, lieutenants and detectives. They are looking for candidates who are certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.

The city is currently patrolled by DeKalb County police officers. The city hopes to have its own officers on the streets this summer.
