Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens is reminding Georgians to check their insurance policies for hurricane coverage as National Hurricane Preparedness Week approaches.

National Hurricane Preparedness Week runs from May 26 through June 1. Although coastal Georgians face the most risk for flooding and other forms of damage, Hudgens says they're not alone. Hudgens says inland residents still face risks of strong winds, heavy rains and inland flooding.

Hudgens says homeowners should discuss insurance needs with a reputable agent and renters should also consider a policy to protect their personal belongings.

An outlook from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Thursday predicted 13 to 20 named storms, seven to 11 that strengthen into hurricanes and three to six storms that become major hurricanes this season.
