A long-serving administrator at the University of Georgia has been named interim vice provost for academic affairs.

The school says Hugh Ruppersburg's appointment is effective Aug. 1. He served as interim dean of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences from 2011 to 2012. He has also served as its senior associate dean since 2005.

Ruppersburg was named University Professor earlier this year. That honor is bestowed upon faculty members who have had a significant impact on the university in addition to their academic responsibilities.

The position of vice provost was previously held by Libby V. Morris, who is serving as interim senior vice president for academic affairs and provost while a national search is being conducted for the next permanent provost.
