Former President Jimmy Carter is scheduled to speak at an event at The Carter Center in Atlanta.

Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter are expected to discuss peace and health initiatives around the world. The event Tuesday is part of an annual series.

The 7 p.m. event is sold out, but will be broadcast live on The Carter Center's website.

The Carters established The Carter Center in 1982 in partnership with Emory University. The center is involved in advancing democracy, human rights and economic opportunity.

The center has observed 94 elections in 37 countries and pioneered new public health initiatives in Africa and Latin America. A major focus has been the work to eradicate Guinea worm disease.
