State Senate Approves K-9 Attack Bill

The state Senate approved a bill Friday to increase penalties and fines for someone who knowingly attacks a police dog.
Bill sponsor Sen. Jeff Mullis says the bill is named Tanja's law, after a police dog who was killed during an attempted arrest.
Mullis says the dog gave up her life to help her community and save her partner and is like a family and community pet.
The bill increases penalties and fines for suspects who knowingly attack police dogs during an attempted arrest, when the officer has announced himself and the dog is under the officer's control.
The measure now goes to the state House for consideration.
