GA Judges: Head Coverings Allowed In Court
Primary Content
Georgia judges voted this week to let people where religious or medical head gear in state courtrooms.
The decision comes after police arrested a Muslim woman last December for refusing to remove her headscarf before attending a hearing.
The Judicial Council of Georgia also voted to let people request an officer of the same gender to inspect them if security wants to conduct a search.
The policy shift stems from the arrest of Lisa Valentine who was ordered to serve 10 days in jail after refusing to remove her hijab in a west Georgia courtroom in Douglasville.
