Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill shot a woman at a home in Lawrenceville Sunday evening, according to Gwinnett County Police.

Sheriff Hill called 911 about the shooting, just after 5:30. The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Gwenevere McCord of Jonesboro. Police say she was shot in the abdomen and remains in critical condition at Gwinnett Medical Center. McCord worked in the model home.

Hill refused to speak with investigators at the scene, and was allowed to leave. He’s yet to give any statement to detectives as of Monday evening.

“As we would with any other investigation, we are working in conjunction with the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s office to ensure that the proper legal process is followed. Due to this being an active investigation, the 911 call will not be released at this time,” Gwinnett Police said in a statement.

Hill served as Clayton County Sheriff from 2004 to 2008, and was reelected to the post in 2013. The same year, he was acquitted of felony corruption charges related to his use of a county-issued credit card.
