Ocmulgee River Flood Warning
Primary Content
People in Middle Georgia are watching the Ocmulgee River rise as some of the rain that fell to the north makes its way downstream.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Ocmulgee River in Bibb, Houston, Jones, Monroe and Twiggs counties.
The area has also been hit with days of rain. More than five inches fell Monday night.
Jimmy Williams is with the Houston County Emergency management Agency in Perry. He says they've had some homes and businesses flood as well as damage to roads.
"There's about five roads that will have major damage to, basically the culverts are washed out, so we basically have a complete breach of the roadway."
Williams says repairs to those roads could take weeks.
It's predicted the Ocmulgee will not rise more than six feet above flood stage.
If that forecast holds, and the rains hold off, there will not be any significant flooding.
