Water Task Force: New Reservoirs Won't Work in Time
Primary Content
The Governor’s water task force says it would take at least eight years to bring new reservoirs on line to supply Atlanta’s drinking water, and the state has just three years to work out the city’s drinking water issues.
A federal judge set a 2012 deadline for the state to work out a deal with its neighbors to share Lake Lanier's water. The ruling says Georgia's been illegally using it as its reservoir.
The task force says building new reservoirs won’t work in time and it’s also pricey.
As far as conversation… it concludes saving water can’t make up for the 280 million gallons a day Atlanta now gets from the lake.
The findings place new pressure for Georgia to broker a deal with Florida and Alabama.
