In its annual ranking of public high schools, U.S. News & World Report included Davidson Fine Arts School.

Out of more than 21,000 public high schools across the country, Davidson came in at number 100.

This is the third year in a row the fine arts magnet school has made the list. It is the only school in the state that was recognized in the ranking.

Vicky Addison is the principal of Davidson Fine Arts. She says teaching the arts to young people actually helps them improve academically.

"In the fine arts they learn things such as concentration, the value of practice—how practice can help you get better over a long period of time, perseverance and those kinds of things," said Addison.

The rankings are based partly on how each school meets or exceeds proficiency standards for their state. Another factor is the school’s participation in advanced placement college level courses and performance on AP exams.
