Two Georgia spots have made the Southern Environmental law Center's top ten endangered sites list.
The two sites in Georgia are where Right Whales breed off the coast, and rivers that could be polluted by a proposed coal-fired power plant in Washington County. The Center says these spots made the list because they face immediate and irreversible threats.
Last week the Center filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Navy in an attempt to stop a proposed sonar range where the whales live. Concerning Plant Washington, the Southern Environmental law Center's Jeff Gleason says if permits do not address potential mercury contamination near Plant Washington, they will not rule out legal action.
"If those permits don't address those issues then I would suspect that there would be challenges."
Gleason says many environmental threats exist in the Southeast due to growth and energy production.
