Jaycee Dugard, kidnapped at age 11 and held 18 years by her abductor, having two children by him, is due to receive $20 million now that California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday signed legislation approving the settlement which was an admission that state officials failed her.

Dugard's story shocked the nation when she reappeared last year after her disappearance in 1991 in South Lake Tahoe.

Her alleged abductor, Phillip Garrido, and his wife have pleaded not guilty. At the time of her kidnapping, Garrido was on parole for a sex offense.

Dugard has said that during her captivity she and her older daughter actually spoke with state parole agents who visited Garrido's residence. But those agents were apparently oblivious to the crime that was taking places right in front of them.

The money will provide Dugard, now 30, and her daughters with enough money to provide a lifetime of therapy and education. Her daughters are 15 and 12.
