State revenue for June went up by nearly 4%. But that still leaves the state short for the year by 9.1%. Governor Sonny Perdue’s spokesman Bert Brantley is cautiously optimistic

"It’s good news that the month is up. Hopefully that’s an indication that the overall economy will recover. You don’t want to take too much out of one month's revenue numbers, because you don’t know what’s behind those numbers."

The state can now close the books on the last fiscal year -- the third in a row ending in negative territory.

The current state budget, which began July 1st, is built on at least 4% growth for the year.
