Ft. Stewart Honors Fallen Soldier
Primary Content

A fallen soldier from Columbus is the latest to have a memorial tree planted in his honor at Fort Stewart.
The Army post today dedicated an eastern redbud tree for Sgt. Johnny W. Lumpkin.
He died July 2 in Iraq.
Fort Stewart commanders have planted a tree at Warriors Walk for each of their soldiers killed overseas since 2003.
Family members say the 38-year-old Lumpkin died after equipment fell on him as he worked on a radar tower.
He was serving his second tour in Iraq.
Lumpkin's death brings the total number of memorial trees at Warriors Walk to 434.
