A federal court judge has ruled against the Augusta State University student who is suing the school for alleged religious discrimination.

Judge J. Randal Hall said in an order filed Friday that Jennifer Keeton can be expelled from ASU's counseling program if she does not complete a remediation plan involving diversity and sensitivity training about homosexuality.

The Augusta Chronicle reported on Hall's decision. The judge says the "plaintiff may ultimately prevail in the case" but at this point has not demonstrated a "'substantial likelihood' of success on the merits of her case."

Hall says the case is "not a case pitting Christianity against homosexuality," but is instead a case about the constitutionality of the actions taken by the school regarding Keeton's Counselor Education masters degree program.
