University of Georgia researchers have received more than a million dollars to develop a mobile phone application for people with autism and developmental disabilities.
The grant from the Institute of Education Sciences allows a team of academics, educators, parents, and students to work together on the i-Skills system. The idea is to use existing technology to produce a roadmap of sorts for people with disabilities and autism.
The i-Skills would hold videos to help individuals communicate and live more independently. Researchers say it will be like a cookbook for everyday tasks. They plan to involve people with disabilities at every level of the three-year project.
