Augusta’s Burn Center Fresh With Upgrades
Primary Content

The nation's largest burn center in Augusta is finished with $9 million worth of upgrades. The Joseph M. Still Burn Center was scheduled to open its newly renovated intensive care unit Tuesday at Doctors Hospital after nine months of work.
The new ICU includes features such as its own entrance for ambulances, four burn operating suites, 20 private rooms and specially made beds designed to reduce pressure on burn patients' bodies.
The Augusta burn center received national attention in 2008 when it received 15 severely burned survivors of a deadly explosion at the Imperial Sugar refinery near Savannah. The 70-bed center treats more than 2,600 patients each year.
