Kennesaw State students this week are voting on whether to approve football for their school. It comes as school officials admit it’s a tough time to ask students for fee increases to support athletic programs.

Students are considering whether to say "yes" to an additional $100 per semester fee to bring football to the school north of Atlanta.

KSU administrators look at Georgia State University as a hopeful sign. Two years ago, students there approved an $85 fee to support its new football team.

Kennesaw State president Dan Papp says some students in recent forums on campus have questioned the wisdom of hiking fees.

“And I said ‘I understand that totally. Three years into the future, this would probably be a slam dunk’. But right now I understand it, and this is one of the reasons why every student has the opportunity to vote on it.”

Papp says he’s optimistic of a better economy by the fall of 2012 -- the earliest any football fee would go into effect. But, if students vote "no" this week, Papp says football would be off the table for the school’s immediate future.
