Atlanta Public Schools officials are about to learn whether sanctions will be imposed on the system by an accrediting agency.

Mark Elgart, president and CEO of AdvancED, said he will meet with the Atlanta system's leaders Tuesday morning and then hold a news conference at the agency's headquarters in Alpharetta to announce the results of a review.

Elgart announced in November he would send in a team for an on-site investigation. He had told the board its infighting was putting the system's accreditation at risk.

The team was empowered to recommend a change in accreditation status, including probation or dropping the system altogether.

Any recommendation needed to be affirmed by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. An online meeting with SACS was held Monday.
