Ga. State Fires Men's Hoops Coach
Primary Content
Rod Barnes is out as men's head basketball coach at Georgia State University. The school fired Barnes on Sunday with one year remaining on his contract.
The move comes as the team just completed its regular season schedule with a home loss Saturday to George Mason. The Panthers finished the regular season schedule with an 11-18 record, 6-12 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The team plays an opening-round CAA tournament game Friday at noon.
Barnes was nearly complete on four years with the Ga. State program, but was never able to lift the Panthers to strong success on the court. He was hired in 2007 after a run of eight years at Mississippi.
Assistant coach Paul Graham will coach the Panthers in their CAA tournament game Friday.
