One of Georgia Power's electrical plants has won an environmental award.

Plant Bowen in Northwest Georgia's Bartow County won the award from General Electric.

The national company cited the plant for reducing how much water it takes from the Etowah River.

Plant Bowen received the Return on Environment Award for a process allowing water to be recycled multiple times in the plant's cooling systems.

Georgia Power announced in April that they will be opening a Water Research Center to test improvements to water conservation and efficiency.

The Water Research Center is expected to open in August of this year.
